GIPA offers a variety
of membership types which includes PA who are currently practicing in
Gastroenterology and/or Hepatology, students with an interest in these
specialties, and other health care professionals and supporters.
Below are the descriptions of
GIPA's membership types:
Fellow members
are PAs, certified by the National Commission on Certification of PAs
(NCCPA), who practice primarily in the field of Gastroenterology and
Hepatology. Fellow members enjoy the privileges of the floor and are
entitled to vote and to hold office.
Sustaining members
are PAs, certified by the NCCPA, who have chosen not to
practice in Gastroenterology and Hepatology, but who still wish to support
GIPA. Sustaining members have the privileges of the floor, but are
not entitled to vote or to hold office.
Physician members
are U.S. licensed physicians who wish to associate with and
support the organization. They have the privileges of the floor,
but not are entitled to vote or to hold office.
Affiliate members
are ineligible for the above categories and wish to associate
with the organization. Their memberships must be approved by the
Board of Directors. Affiliate members shall have the privileges
of the floor, but shall not be entitled to vote or to hold office.
Student members
are enrolled in a CAHEA-accredited program or an unaccredited
program recognized by the AAPA. Student members are entitled to the
privileges of the floor, but are not entitled to vote or to hold office.
Honorary members
have rendered distinguished service to the physician assistant
profession in Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Honorary members
are nominated by an active Fellow member, approved by the Board of Directors,
within one year, and approved by the general membership. They are
entitled to the privileges of the floor, but are not entitled to vote or
to hold office. Honorary members are exempt from paying dues.
